Thursday Thoughts
November 13, 2008
Carlton Rider, Principal

Last week I mentioned that I would address some of possible changes that we may need to be looking at if our enrollment continues a downward spiral in the next few years. Since this will be a topic at our board meeting this week, I felt that it would be better to wait until next week to begin addressing the issue in my Thursday Thoughts. Stay tuned!

I want to sincerely thank all those who had anything to do with the success of this year’s Holiday   Happening. There are simply too many people to thank and if I start I am afraid that I will leave someone out so I’ll keep my thanks general but sincere.

According to some information given to me on Tuesday, the Saturday total was $6,539.76 and Sunday was $9,270.02 for a total business activity of $15,809.78. In addition, both the live and silent auctions have taken in $18,719.00 for a combined total of $34,528.78. There are still a number of items to be picked up and paid for in the silent auction so that total will grow in the days to come. It would appear that this year’s Holiday Happening will be more profitable than last year’s event in spite of the current shape of the economy. Again, thanks to all who helped in any way to making this year’s event such a success.

When we talk about the Holiday Happening there is more to this event than just making money. The fellowship, people meeting people and working with each other for a common cause as well as the exposure of our facility to those in our community can not be given a monetary value. The economy has forced all of us to reevaluate where we are and where we are going and to possibly set new priorities in our lives. It would be my hope that Catholic education, although expensive, would continue to be a top priority for many if not all of our parents.

As an up-date to what I wrote a couple of days ago, I received more current figures that I would like to share with you. The figures above did not include our raffle ticket totals and other income. There are still silent auction items to be included as well as a $500.00 contribution from Kohl’s Department Store that have not been factored into these figures but, nonetheless, these are impressive figures. As of November 13th total Holiday Happening Sales came to $15,809.78; Main Raffle Sales Prior to the Holiday Happening were $9,393.35 and the current Auction Deposits stand at $18,719.00 for a total of $43,922.13. That is quite impressive considering the economic environment we live in today! More reason to thank all those involved in this year’s event!
