Thursday Thoughts
April 23, 2009
Carlton Rider, Principal |
I hope that everyone had a good Easter
break. It doesn’t seem possible but the
school year is quickly winding down with
about six weeks left. A reminder that fourth
quarter interims will be sent home next
Thursday, April 30th.
One of the areas that come under our Home
and School Association that we sometimes
take for granted is our E2 program. All of
our students in grades K – 8 are given
opportunities during the year for art
enrichment as a component of the E2 program.
A representative from Art and Clay meets
with each grade three times a year to
provide this enrichment opportunity. Using
our Grade Course of Study as a guide,
students explore hands-on opportunities that
supplement what is taught in the classroom.
Art and Clay also provides opportunities for
after-school projects such as the one that
will be offered this Friday, April 24th at
which students will decorate a ceramic
trinket box especially designed for that
special Mother and/or Grandmother. During
this week the photography club met on
Wednesday, April 22nd. The Photography Club
meets on a regular basis during which time
students participate in learning more about
the basic principles of photography. During
this week’s meeting students viewed and
selected photos to be considered for
presentation on the school’s website. At the
Mystery Club meeting on Thursday, April
23rd, students participated in solving the
mystery of the month. Another one of our E2
programs is the after-school Spanish
program. This program enables students to
receive instruction in both the Spanish
culture and language and to take a for-high
school-credit class during their seventh and
eighth grade years. These are just a few of
the after-school-opportunities that are a
part of our E2 program. I want to thank
Jayne Bryant for taking over part of this
program during the past few months. If you
have any suggestions concerning future
programs, just give Jayne a call at
740-332-3003.
This Sunday, April, 26th, our second graders
will be making their First Holy Communion
during a special Mass at 2:00 p.m. in our
church. I want to thank and recognize the
parents of our second graders for their
important role in preparing our students for
this special sacrament. Also, special thanks
to their teachers, Mrs. Probasco and Mrs.
Kemmerer, along with Sr. Louis Mary and
Father Franks for assisting our parents.
This is the second of the three sacraments
of Christian Initiation and takes many
people working together to ensure that
students are prepared for the reception of
this sacrament.
