Thursday Thoughts
April 2, 2009
Carlton Rider, Principal

As a part of my Thursday Thoughts I will be inserting a new segment called Glad Tidings. This will highlight students or faculty who have given their time, talent, and effort to being witnesses to the Gospel message in service to others either here at school or in our community. This first Glad Tidings goes out to Sam Dyer, Leah Boyden, Grace Changet, and Emily Sheridan who helped this past Sunday at our parish Lenten Family Celebration. Many thanks to these students for giving their time on a Sunday afternoon to be of service to our parish community.

This past Monday and Tuesday I traveled to St. Patrick School in London, Ohio to be a part of an external validation team with four other principals. As you will recall, I was part of a team who went to Marion St. Mary a few weeks ago as a member of that school’s external validation team. There is much to be gained by spending time at another school, taking a look at the school from many different perspectives and sharing with other principals your successes and concerns. It is hard not to compare what that school is doing with your school. It always seems that you can pick up ideas that you can use at your school, which makes the two days very worthwhile.

A reminder that school will be in session on Holy Thursday, April 9th. This will be our third make-up day of the four that needed to be made up. The final make-up day will be Thursday, June 4th.

I hope that you and your family will be able to attend the special services that are a part of the Triduum next week, Holy Week. Even though Holy Thursday and Good Friday are not considered Holy Days of Obligation, these days are at the heart of our Catholic faith in that they recall the institution of the Eucharist and the passion and death of Jesus. The third day of the Triduum, the Easter Vigil, celebrates the glorious resurrection or Christ and the promise of new life for all of us. During the Easter Vigil, we welcome into the church those who have been a part of our R.C.I. A. program the past nine months. The Vigil Mass is truly a service of both light and hope and if you have never attended a Easter Vigil Mass this might be a good year to experience the mystery and beauty the surrounds this Mass.

     Until next time . . .
