Thursday Thoughts
February 5, 2009
Carlton Rider, Principal |
I suppose that a snow day is something that
most students and probably some of the
students look forward to, at least once in a
while. I’m not so sure that parents have the
same feeling since a day off for the
students can present all sorts of problems,
especially when both parents work and have
to make last minute arrangements for their
children. So far this year we have missed 9
days of school with four of those days
having to be made up. The schedule for those
make-up days is posted on our website and a
paper copy will be sent home in our Thursday
folder this week. I heard recently on the
weather that we still get 50% of our snow
after February 2nd. Let’s hope that doesn’t
happen this year!
I have also posted important information
concerning registration for the 2009/2010
school year under the link Registration on
our website. This information was also
shared in my January 29 Thursday Thoughts.
The information concerning the FACTS form is
very important so please make sure you check
out that information.
Speaking of registration, registration for
kindergarten and students who will be new to
St. Mary’s in grades 1 – 8 will take place
the week of February 23-27. Registration for
those currently in grades K – 7 will take
place between March 2 – 13. Our parish
finance committee will be approving the
tuition rates this week and once that is
determined further information will be sent
home.
REGISTRATION FORM
In an effort to reduce the amount of paper
being used at school, our faculty has been
limited as regards the amount of paper they
can use each month. Reductions will also be
made in the area of how much information is
sent home in our Thursday folder each week.
Much of this information can be posted on
our website and we will be taking a look at
limiting the Thursday folder to those who
have no access to a computer. In the near
future, we will be sending home a form to
determine who will need to continue to
receive the Thursday folder. Only those who
indicate such a need will be sent the
Thursday folder. I hope to begin this in a
couple of weeks.
We have a new link on our website called
Class Notes. This gives you information
concerning what is going on academically in
each class for the month. Now when your
child comes home and you ask “What are you
doing in class?” and they respond “Nothing!”
you have a source to really find out what
they are learning or will be doing for that
month.
With the recent bad weather, I have been
trying to catch up on my Thursday Thoughts
that were not posted in January. I’ll try to
get everybody caught up as soon as possible!
Until next week . . .
